Help! I'm new to your studio and/or to yoga!
BELOW IS A LIST OF FAQ'S THAT WE HOPE YOU FIND HELPFUL. IF YOU HAVE ANY MORE QUESTIONS, PLEASE FEEL FREE TO SEND US A MESSAGE!
How Many times a week should I practice Yoga in order to experience optimal physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual benefits?
Yoga's benefits only increase with increased practice.
One time per week... is ok, at least you are coming and getting some benefit...It will take a long time to see results. Think about taking up an instrument and practicing once a week...or every other week, or even once a month. Yoga is like that...It is a practice.
Two times per week... you will begin to see results much quicker...such as reduced stress levels, a calmer attitude...etc. You are beginning to build a discipline. But we understand that schedules can be prohibitive. Just know that the more you practice, the more benefits you'll reap!
Three times per week...you are getting there. You will immediately notice that you don't feel the same...and maybe you are starting to practice a little bit at home, which brings us to...
Four or more times per week...people who practice yoga at least four times per week are coming to class regularly, and have probably created a home practice, too. Positive effects are strength of body, mind and character. Reduced reactions to things that trigger you. They feel better, physical aches and pains begin to diminish..
REMEMBER, You don't have to do a full 60-90 minute practice...Sitting quietly, breathing and noticing your thoughts is also practicing yoga.
I'm Not Flexible, Can I Do Yoga?
We believe that yoga changes lives and bodies, no matter where you start from. Yoga is for the willing, not the flexible! Flexibility may be something that comes with your practice, but is not required for participation.
What Do I Wear To Yoga?
Wear clothes you are comfortable in. Work out clothes are a great place to start, but not required. Just be sure you are comfortable stretching in them and they're not too baggy.
How Is Yoga Different From Stretching?
Yoga helps us connect the mind, body and spirit through physical poses (asana) as well as breathing techniques (pranayama) and meditation (dhyana). We believe that yoga changes your whole person through these practices, not just lengthening your muscles!
Can I Eat Before Yoga?
We recommend you eat a full meal 2-3 hours before class. If you eat any sooner, your body won't get the opportunity to digest your food and you may become uncomfortable as we twist, stretch and turn our bodies upside down. If you're afraid you'll be hungry, eat a light snack like nuts or yogurt.
Is Yoga A Religion?
Yoga is not a religion. Yoga began 5,000 years ago and draws inspiration from many philosophical perspectives including Christianity, Buddhism and Hinduism. There is no need to surrender your religious beliefs in order to practice yoga.
